We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer with strong automation, process control, capital project management, and continuous improvement experience within a food manufacturing plant environment. This role will provide end-to-end project management for ongoing automation enhancement projects taking place at several food ingredient plants located throughout the U.S.

Well-rounded electrical engineering and industrial controls expertise with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-speed process equipment is desired, including PLC-controlled production and packaging lines, HMI devices, conveying systems, AC/DC motors, VFDs, vision systems and electrical instrumentation throughout the plant. Prior Engineering or Operations experience with high-volume dry food ingredient production and packaging equipment/systems is highly preferred. This is a fully remote role operating from a home office located anywhere in the US or a regional plant location, traveling as needed to support project implementations.

Our client is a leading supplier of edible seeds, ancient grains, sweet spices, customized grain blends and specialty whole grain flours in the U.S. They are experiencing significant growth as their ingredients are being incorporated into a wide range of grain-based foods to provide distinctive flavor and nutrition. Our client has expertise in helping their customers differentiate their brands with healthy and flavorful grain-based foods.

Essential Job Functions Include: Lead all electrical automation capital projects from start to finish, including scope development, design, implementation, scheduling, and commissioning. Strengthen PLC and HMI infrastructure reliability through capital investment and modernization. Coordinate and manage contractors during all phases of a project.

Develop operational best practices for electro-mechanical process equipment. Generate SOPs and lead operator training on all new process equipment and control systems. Prepare project cost estimates and capital expenditure requests containing ROI justification.

Ensure electrical documentation and schematics are up-to-date for all systems. Provide start-up and troubleshooting service periodically at other plant locations. Access key production data remotely online during normal business hours and off-hours as required.

Qualifications include: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other equivalent degree. 8+ years of Electrical Automation, Industrial Controls, Project Management, or Process Engineering experience in dry food ingredient, flour milling, or animal feed production.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus, but not required. Strong expertise with PLC control logic, programing, and troubleshooting is a MUST (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens knowledge is preferred) Prior Engineering leadership, supervisory, or managerial experience is a plus. Continuous Improvement (CI) training or certification in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and/or TPM is highly preferred.

Knowledge of CAD or other process design programs. Capital equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to solve complex manufacturing issues.

Excellent data analysis skills and well-rounded business acumen. Independent thinker, creative, imaginative, yet with practical ability to justify project costs. Collaborative work style with the ability to both lead and follow.

Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% at times to support projects in other U.S. plants. Compensation for this position includes an attractive base salary commensurate with experience, bonus incentives, full medical/dental benefits, 401-K, and paid vacation.
